Collin drove us up and we got there at like 4. Warmed up around 5:40 and met a super cool girl from skyview so we warms up together. Went down to the bullpen and I was feeling petty good but I was more nervous than usual. Did some strides and just kinda prepped for the race. They lined us up and I was on the inside waterfall, I got out at the start really good and fell into a really good position. First 400 was an 82 which was quite a bit faster than I was needing (I was going for 92's) but I didn't stress I just kind of went with it. After the first 400 my right shoe came untied but I was able to ignore it pretty well so that's good. First mile came through at 6:03 and I was feeling really good. Next 400 I focused on surging and staying with the girl who was just ahead of me. But when she started to break away I didn't go with her, and even though my splits stayed pretty consistent they weren't fast enough and I knew and I didn't do anything about it and I'm so mad that I didn't because I could've been way faster. Overall my time was consistent but not what I'm wanted, these next few weeks I'm going to focus a lot on making sure I don't get too comfortable with a pace in my races, I just need to be ok with having it feel a little too fast and being ok with it anyways. On the other hand Simplot was a lot of fun and definitely a good experience. Shout out to Connor Gan and Guppy for making it to finals and good luck to everyone who's going to be racing on Saturday! |
